Sometimes the way a book is written can capture the interest..in other words the language used. As you say mat. a positive but 'other' kind of book review. Remembering what a technically incompetent soul I am, it's interesting that I actually 'enjoyed' reading a good part of Cocoon myself:-) busy day in the shop today...........firemen's strike still on:-(

Grey, windy and wet and still the firemen's strike looms nearer. Earthquakes in Britain too.The street is quiet today, apart from Steffi's birthday madness:-) I contributed a hastily constructed pumpkin head with glued on eyes and flowers in its flowing yarn hair.
Apparently we recognise more 'soap' characters than heads of state. They asked who the German Chancellor was..............'Hmmmmn that Kohl went didn't he? Hmmnnn.' The British prime Minister? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Leading soap actors were named in seconds. Can't imagine why:-))

What a truly 'unexpected' sort of day......unexpected visitors this morning, unexpected call to work for an hour in a shop, unexpected meeting in the Art shop, unexpected friend/coffee at 4.30. unexpected mail (delivered first to wrong address) and unexpected lovely photos for a new portrait commission. Also unexpected demand for more banana cake!
The basic plan had been to do the housework and some shopping this afternoon............but No.things turned out a lot better than that:-)
Comment on our news: Will our firemen really go on strike and if they do will they sleep nights after the first fire fatality?

Nice to know I won't starve anytime soon......swapped a finished portrait for the next few months meat supply at the butchers' yesterday:-) I really like the barter system:-)
